Rules Of Life

Some simple rules I have formulated based solely on my own experiences. Many of them are clichés. Who knew? the old folks were right.
  1. everyone is biased.
  2. nothing is absolute; context is everything.
  3. perfection is impossible.
  4. you can't go back.
  5. nil novo sub sole.
  6. the easiest way to get something is to ask for it.
  7. the only way to know is by checking.
  8. patterns are everywhere.
  9. perception is reality.
    1. one can convince one's self of anything.
    2. repeating lies often enough makes them believable.
  10. every system will be misused.
  11. work smarter, not harder.
  12. follow the money.
  13. pain is the worst thing in life.
  14. communication is the most difficult aspect of organization.
  15. new industries disperse, old ones consolidate.
  16. most things fall to the lowest common denominator.
  17. predators always seek the easiest prey.
  18. politicians will spend every penny you give them and more.
  19. government-funded organizations never die.
  20. the value of artificially-valued assets shrinks over time.
  21. never trust anyone claiming to:
    1. be in contact with God.
    2. make you easy money
  22. never underestimate:
    1. nature.
    2. how cruel a woman can be to another woman.
